Relais del Borgo is an old nobility construction of medieval times. It was built upon the protection walls of the borough of Staffolo circa 1300. The old building endured with remodeling the following centuries. Its last remodeling, in the 1930’s, utterly shows a late liberty style. The building enjoys the benefits of bio-architecture according to the rules and criteria supported in the Marche region: a combination of eco sustainable and historical elements in harmony with its natural surroundings and the borough itself. Recent refurbishments have endowed the building with most ideal sustainable and restoration features. Such elements as dehumidifying wall plaster, Hansgrohe Ecosmart water system, and iron cast for the stairs details were used. Some antique parts were preserved and restored such as friezes and some doors; the stairs and the entrance gate (once spoils of wars); the entrance door to the ground floor and the windows of the ground and first floors, were also preserved and restored; the granite floors were re-polished. Very old local construction elements and state-of-the-art technology successfully converge into a sustainable reality: Relais del Borgo, ideal lodgings amidst the medieval borough of Staffolo in Marche, Italy.
